Dreaded former dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida, may rejoin the April presidential race through the National Democratic Party (NDP), his spokesman, Mr. Kassim Afegbua, has revealed.

According to the spokesman, “from  what we have seen so far, the nation is too fragile and too complex to be left in the hands of people who do not understand intrigues, that exist in all the geo-political settings. And that is why some of us have vowed that as much as we remain alive, we will pursue a Babangida presidency in this April 2007 presidential poll”.

“Power resides in the hands of God. Those who are in prison some years back came out by a stroke of luck and God used human beings that walk on two legs to enthrone them into position of authority. I am sure  an average Nigerian will  think that it was almost unthinkable for somebody in prison to become the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

“So, that same God that has all it takes, all the power you can think about, that God of all gods is still alive. So, no matter the threat, no matter the tribulations,  coercion, suppression, oppression or whatever you have in place, that God has all it takes to also enthrone another person as president of the country”.

“Time there was when Nigerians were held by the jugular. Nobody was bold enough to confront the powers that be because we were operating at maximum dictatorial level with grand acquisition. Corruption was at the highest level, but, all  of a sudden, there was an eclipse and that turned the tide”.

“Babangida is very much in the race. I think there is no basis for  verification. From what he told Nigerians, from the letter he wrote to President Olusegun Obasanjo, he said he was withdrawing from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that he was going to explore other options  to advance his aspirations and that of democracy”
